The "28 Days Later" franchise is set to continue with its third installment, "28 Years Later," scheduled for release on June 20, 2025. Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, the film reunites the original creative team behind the 2002 cult classic.
The narrative picks up nearly three decades after the initial Rage Virus outbreak, focusing on a group of survivors residing on a quarantined island in Britain. Their existence is disrupted when a father and his son venture to the mainland, uncovering mutated threats and unforeseen horrors.
The cast features Jodie Comer as Isla, a pregnant woman living with her husband and son; Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Jamie, Isla's husband and a scavenger; and Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Kelson, a survivor of the outbreak. Additional cast members include Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding.
Notably, Cillian Murphy, who portrayed Jim in the original film, will not appear onscreen but serves as an executive producer for this installment.
The official trailer, released on December 10, 2024, features a haunting recitation of Rudyard Kipling's 1903 poem "Boots" by actor Taylor Holmes. The trailer quickly became the #1 trending video on YouTube, amassing over 10 million views within 48 hours.
As anticipation builds, "28 Years Later" promises to delve deeper into the post-apocalyptic world, exploring the evolution of the Rage Virus and the resilience of humanity in the face of relentless horror.
